It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Ethel Patton-D’Anjou on August 6, 2023. She peacefully left this world, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Mrs. Ethel Patton-D’Anjou was born on to Matthew Thomas Patton and Ethel Bolton Patton. Throughout her life, she exemplified compassion, strength, and selflessness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her sense of humor was infectious while her business acumen was well respected.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, entrepreneur, and friend, Mrs. Ethel Patton-D’Anjou brought joy and warmth to the lives of her family and friends. Her nurturing spirit and wise counsel made her a pillar of support and guidance in their lives. She cherished her role as a mother and embraced each moment, creating lasting memories filled with love.
Mrs. Ethel Patton-D’Anjou was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her resilience in the face of challenges and her unwavering faith in the goodness of humanity touched the lives of many. Her hobbies and interests included sitting on her porch or in the family store and enjoying interacting with family, students, and community members. She enjoyed traveling on cruises overseas to various countries. This reflected her zest for life and her ability to find joy in the simple things.
With a Master’s Degree from Wayne State University, she was a master educator. She taught over 50 years, in various school systems such as Vicksburg, MS, Raymond, MS, Claiborne County, MS, Baltimore MD, St. Rose, LA, to name a few. She taught various subjects including, but not limited to Spanish, Reading, and Special needs development. She was an adjunct professor at Alcorn State University. Mrs. Ethel Patton-D’Anjou also taught for many years as a Nun with Sisters of the Holy Family in New Orleans and The Oblate Sisters of Providence in Baltimore, MD. A very good businesswoman as well, she helped guide, direct, and maintain a fourth-generation business that she took over the business from her parents while simultaneously serving as a school teacher and mother. She leaves behind a legacy that will be forever etched in the hearts of those who loved her. She is survived by her husband Mr. Herb D’Anjou, her loving children, Levi, Francois, Patton, Pierre, and her adoring 11 grandchildren: Alicia, Amber, Alexis, Levi II, Nyla Kay, Tierra, Pierre, Jr., Stephanie, Stephon, Steven, and Josiah; nieces and nephews, Anthony Patton, Alice Patton, Matthew Patton, of Atlanta, GA and Abigail D’Anjou of New York, additionally, she leaves behind numerous friends and relatives who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who offered their support and prayers during this difficult time.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Mrs. Ethel Patton-D’Anjou at St. Joseph Catholic Church 411 Coffee Street Port Gibson, MS 39150 at 5pm on Monday, August 14, 2023. Friends and family are welcome to attend to pay their respects and celebrate the remarkable life she led.
Though she is no longer with us in person, her spirit will continue to live on through the memories we hold dear. May Mrs. Patton-D’Anjou’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may her love and light continue to shine upon us.
